The harder and more competitive universities on the whole give out fewer handouts and require students to go away and learn more about the course content from textbooks and their own personal research. This is normally a good thing, but what happens if you’re not expecting this? What happens if you could find out what a course is actually like, as told by current students on that course right now?

And that is exactly what we do; without hundreds of advertisements and without irrelevant student offers thrown at you on every page – just clear and accurate descriptions straight from the students themselves, alongside an array of statistics (including for example: ratio of male to females and percentage of people employed within 6 months of graduating from a specific university) and also rankings from top university guides. Unifo currently covers 303 universities and 1135 courses across the UK.

Unifo.co.uk was set up in 2009 by Hugo Bailey. After undertaking some initial independent research it transpired, as he feared, that over 1 in 2 university students agreed that they either didn’t know what to expect from their course or felt unprepared. A staggering 8% of undergraduates regretted choosing their course due to being ill-informed and wanted to switch to another degree.

However, by far the most shocking statistic revealed that only a tiny 6% of students actually said they were “very prepared” for university life and their course. Unifo aims to increase this last statistic considerably – to where it ought to be!
