The best things about Veterinary Science:
"The best thing about the course is the different teaching techniques used on a day to day basis. The course is not 100% lectures, which would be rather uninteresting, but is made of dissections and other types of practicals which are truly interesting and allow you to understand what you learn in the classroom better, as you can put it all into context with live animals. Unlike some other universities, the RVC integrates clinical ideas from the start of the course, integrating the clinical with the pre-clinical. This helps you understand the usefulness of what you're learning, which is really important as a student, since sometimes it can feel as though the subject topic is unimportant to the whole picture. "The practical work, like post mortem examinations of dead animals. It's much more interesting to learn about diseases that way than out of a textbook!"

The worst things about Veterinary Science:
"What I like least about the course is the lack of direction. Going from sixth form or college to university is a large jump, and an individual's learning technique needs to change to cope with this big jump. I feel that the course doesn't aid much with this change. It sometimes lacks learning objectives, and we are often unsure as to whether a certain fact or figure, or even lecture, is going to be tested in the future. Also, when reading around the subject, it's hard to know when you're going into too much depth for what we are required to know at the level we're at. As the years go on, you settle into a routine and figure it out for yourself, but for the first year or so, you feel a bit like a fish out of water. "

"It's very time-consuming and there's not really any flexibility in contact time, which can make it difficult to juggle other commitments like part-time jobs."
