A report into the low statistics of satisfaction from students’ course and university choice.
Key statistics:
• 7% of respondents regretted choosing their course
• Over 1 in 2 participants agreed that they either didn’t know what to expect from their course or felt unprepared
• Less than 10% of students said they were actually “very prepared” for university life
Student university choice satisfaction – lower than it should be?
These days, students coming to the end of their time at school or college have an enormous amount of choice as to the next step. Many choose university as a logical move, but with over 1000 courses to choose from, and over 300 universities, who knows where to start?
A survey commissioned by Unifo.co.uk, the website designed to give students a true insight into university life, has revealed that the information that is currently available to these students is predominantly written by either journalists or the universities themselves. Unfortunately, the journalists are not in a sufficient position to know what they’re writing about and the universities unsurprisingly can only offer an extremely biased opinion, and is more marketing material than helpful advice.
Both of these resources lead to confusion among students, and sometimes induce them to make misinformed judgements as to their future. The university and course they choose lands them with a huge amount of debt, but should hopefully help them secure employment.
