The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
13
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
I took a Btec National in Business so don't know much about A levels. Probably better to do A levels in Business,Law and Maths.
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
The reason why I decided to study Business Management was because, whilst I was at college for 3 years I studied business and really enjoyed it.
Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
How intense and hard it is. I knew it would be but it is 10 times harder than I had ever expected. I also wished I had known about the negative marking.
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Average day at university is made up of about 2 to 3 Lectures.Total of 2 to 3 tutorials in per week.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
There is a lot of reading to do, studying 6 modules at a time and usually have a chapter on each to read a week.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
The best thing that I liked about my degree programme was the large amount of people on the course, which meant that I could meet a lot of new people. Also like the different ways of teaching.
What do you like least about your degree programme?
Negative marking for multipe choice. It was only this year that it was introduced at the time when every other school at Swansea University was scrapping it. This means that for every question answered incorrectly either a quarter or a third of a mark is deducted. Doesn't reflect true ability of student.
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
The universitys academic facilities are very good. I have had a lot of first hand experience with them due to my dyslexia
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Most of the teaching methods are lectures, using powerpoint slides. Some lectures are are very lively, others are very boring and the lecturer reads word for word off the powerpoint slides.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Swansea University is a brilliant university, it is a great place to study/social scene. It is also great having the beach by the campus. Very friendly place. The SU are always there to help.
What is the academic life like at your university?
It is good, there is a library where people can go and study. Not open 24 hours except during exam time. It is possible to join (£5 p.a)The Swansea University Computer Society (SUCS) and get 24/7 access to their computers with free printing.
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Fresher's week was good, it was nothing like I had expected, much better. There was something going on every night and there was also someone always about to make sure that everyone was alright and that they knew where they were going.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
The best thing about my university is that everybody is so nice, the university has a great atmosphere and the SU is very approachable.
The worst thing is probably the building works which makes it hard to get around.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
There are a lot of sports on offer at Swansea university. They have an Athletics Union. The list of different sports is endless. The rugby team always play Cardiff once a year at Varsity.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
The social scene and nightlife is very good, it can be very alcohol orientated but there are other things to do which are not alcohol orientated.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
The city is nice, it could possibly to with a bit of regenerating. They are re building the bus station making it harder to get around. Buses are scattered all around town.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in the student Village, which has a mix of flats and houses. I think living in the Village was a lot better as it was cheaper. No en suite facilities.
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
The village is self catered. Self catered is better because it means that students have to learn to stand on their own two feet, which includes preparing their own food.
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £62pw self catered in student village.
