The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
16
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Essay based courses with academic links to Law such as Social Sciences subjects are ideal. A levels in Government and Politics, Economics, History
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I wanted to pursue a career in Law.
Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
More detail about the modules would have been extremely helpful, along with a realistic portrayal of the degree.
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
The timetable structure for a Law degree consists of lectures, tutorials and seminars. Lectures usually have a very large number of students in the theatre, whereas tutorials and seminars are more intimate with the chance for one on one questions and debates. Tutorials are the most intimate, with your timetable having tutorials for each module. In tutorials, questions and cases that were assigned to be done are reviewed and explained in depth.
As a law student you will also participate in moots.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Law requires a lot of extra reading, particularly if you want to do very well in the degree.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
N/A
What do you like least about your degree programme?
it is a very dry and dense course. It can be extremely boring and hard to concentrate. It allows little scope for creativity. I would advise that you should only embark on a Law degree if you are certain that you want to become a Lawyer or enter the legal profession. It is not the sort of degree one should enter if they are unsure about their career choice as you will gain very little enjoyment from the course.
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
The university's academics are of a reasonable standard, as are their facilities.
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
The content of the Law degree at Nottingham Trent very specific and doesn't allow much choice as it only offers the LLB.
First year modules are all compulsory. The modules you will learn in your first year include Tort, The Constitution and Contract Law.
The teaching methods used include lectures with information on legal principles and some in depth introductions and analysis of cases.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Nottingham Trent University is a modern university constantly expanding and has a great amount to offer in terms of course and nightlife. The social scene in Nottingham is amazing as it is such a big student city with 2 in 10 people being students. There is always something to do and it is rarely quiet. Job prospects from attending this university are extremely high so it is definitely a place to consider studying at, particularly if you are thinking of doing a creative course such as art, photography, graphics, fashion etc.
What is the academic life like at your university?
Ok.
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Freshers week was extremely fun!
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
The best thing about my university is its location; Nottingham Trent is based in the vibrant city of Nottingham. As a Law student I am solely based on the city campus which is right in the centre of the city. The campus is very modern and is currently undergoing further expansion.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
I'm not a sporting person myself but Sport is big at the university with every sport on offer. Varsity sports (competitions vetween Nottingham Trent and University of Nottingham) is a fun time of year.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
There is a great social scene in Nottingham as it is one of the biggest student city's with Nottingham University also being nearby. Therefore as a result the city is run by students. There are loads of things to cater for every taste. The social scene in Nottingham is pretty hedonistic,so yes, alcohol is a big part of it.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Nottingham is an amazing city!
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I live in a student house at present. I would advise it best to live in halls for your first year as it is an extremely sociable environment and you will meet more people and therefore make more friends.
