The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
20-ish

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I enjoyed the work experience and have always had an interest in health care professions.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
Heavy amounts of Biology

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Labs and lectures

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes

Is there anything else you think is relevant or that you would like to add in respect of your course?
I love this course!

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
The lecturers are pretty chilled out.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
The workload.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Excellent, and there's plenty of staff support.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
The write ups of lab reports help to explain better the lecture notes. Blackboard (the online interactive learning environment) is really handy. Some professors prefer using references so there's a lot of background reading to do. Workshops are excellent, the professor can give a one-to-one explanation on their subject.

Describing your university
What is the academic life like at your university?
The workload is intense. They say first year is always the easiest, and already I've found it challenging.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Worse...it was literally parties and drinking and clubbing all week. It's personally not my kind of thing.

Are there any other notes you would like to add about life in general at university or anything else which would be relevant to a prospective student?
It's an excellent university. It's an excellent city (although it rains quite a bit!) I loved it the minute i saw it. It appealed to me for a reason I still don't know...

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best: it's a beautiful city and building and my school is the best in the UK Worst: studying is difficult

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
The gyms not bad. There's the sports fair in freshers week which is open to anyone, even if they haven't played any sport in their life before, they're more than welcome to join all the sports societies.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Yep! It's crazy!

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Amazing! Its buildings are gorgeous and the shopping's great. It's the welsh capital (!) so theres plenty of things going on with concerts and other major sports events being held here but for a student it can be a bit expensive.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived at home in the first year.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Depends entirely on the individual whether they can cook. It can be irritating living with people who use up your food or don't clean up after themselves. It's always an experience in catering but it can become difficult if u have a special diet (i.e. vegetarians). Although there is an option, it tends to be chips! Its nice to have home cooked food.
