The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
25

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Biology, Psychology, Chemistry

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
Wanted to be a nurse and felt this course was the best way of doing this that was both practical and academic.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
I wish I'd knwon about the placement/shift hours. The shifts can be very long on placement and I wasn't really aware of this before I began.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Mostly lectures with some optional tutorials. Course is made up of 50% hospital placement and 50% lectures done in blocks.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes

Is there anything else you think is relevant or that you would like to add in respect of your course?
Really good, would recommend it to anyone wishing to become a nurse and be challenged academically

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
Learning new skills.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
Staff feedback.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Really good - plenty of computers and great libraries. Most tutors are very accessible and willing to help if needed.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Mainly spoken lectures, however in child branch lectures there are only a small number of people so this is combined with a lot of group work and discussion.

ERASMUS scheme, study abroad and work placements
Have you studied on an ERASMUS or study abroad programme? Where did you go and what experience have you gained from your placement?
Option to do an elective placement abroad in third year.

Have you been on a work placement/year in industry? How has it benefited your study and career prospects:
50% of course is placement, definitely needed as this is how you learn to be a nurse.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
An amazing place, coming here was the best decision I ever made. Plenty to see and do with opportunities to have fun and work hard.

What is the academic life like at your university?
Very academic yet not afraid to have fun.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Better than expected, really enjoyed the variety of nights out and really felt I got to know people during that week.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best = campus, really pretty and spacious. Worst = campus, takes a long time to walk from one side to the other.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Lots of opportunities to play sports both as a uni and departmentally. The gym on campus is also really good and a large number of classes are available. Facilities like squash, badminton, tennis, football pitches are also widely available.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Good night life/ social scene but would definitely say it is alcohol orientated.

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Nottingham is a really fun place to live, plenty of shops and things to do.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
Lived in self catered halls in first year and then a student house. Many people prefer catered halls in 1st year but I think self-catered is best especially for people studying nursing.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self-catered. Still have a very good social life but with having to do strange hours in nursing found it better to cook for myself.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £75 - £90pw.
