The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
20
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Mathematics, Computing, and Business Studies
Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
I wish I'd known how much programming there would be!
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Lectures, followed by a Lab class related to the lecture where we undertake an exercise which may or may not count towards the overall module mark.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes - there's a lot of programming. A lot to understand in a very short amount of time. Most universities say that previous experience in programming isn't necessary but I feel it is. The only thing I feel that you can learn in a short amount of time, besides the programming side is the theoretical aspect.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
Learning about the software engineering processes.
What do you like least about your degree programme?
Programming!
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Very good.
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
I expected more one-on-one help to be provided. The university is very small, and most university students benefit from this where their lectures have 2 or 3 times the amount of students in them.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
The best part of the university I feel is the attitude of all the students. It is a friendly place and everyone is focused on one thing (their work!!). I feel that if I went to another university where attitudes towards academic studies weren't as good, I may too have fallen into the trap with them. I feel very safe at University, especially with the 24/7 patrol of the campus - and there is a lot of it!
What is the academic life like at your university?
Everyone is academically intelligent. A good balance is shown with students regards to a healthy social life in balance with their studies.
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Yes it was exactly how I expected it.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Friendly people, staff and very good facilities.
The only bad thing is the limited range of courses available in my department. Most people find that the course isn't for them and they either don't have the right number of UCAS points to change to their desired course, or simply are only offered a course which they don't want to go on to.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
They are quite good. There is a sports centre open to the general public as well as the students (offered at a cheaper price) where we can swim, play badminton, indoor football etc.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Yes. Very much so alcohol orientated (atleast in term time anyway). However, when exam period comes up, everything is literally put to a halt. I think this shows a good attitude with students.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
It's right in the city centre. Couldn't possibly be in a better location.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
Not the best of places to live in, but hey, thats all part of the student experience.Self catered. I feel it is better this way as the whole point of living away is a part of independance.
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £65-110 pw. All accommodation self-catered.
