The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
15 hours

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
For the two courses Business Economics and Economics, ideally the student would have an advantage if Economics, Maths, Business and English were previously studied.

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I previously enjoyed Economics in A-levels and this degree pulled in my other interest, the financial side to Business.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
My usual day would begin after midday consisting of a full day of lectures followed by corresponding seminars the next day or later in the week, in order to go through independent study, seminar worksheets and participate in group discussions.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
A fair amount. Students are expected to read further on lecture content for the proceeding seminars and to gain a comprehensive understanding of Economic theory and principles. Generally, the more you study, the better you do. Lots of students find a balance between studying and socialising and do well.

Is there anything else you think is relevant or that you would like to add in respect of your course?
The Business Economics Degree is virtually the same as the Economics degree, with only a difference of one module, out of six modules.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
The Business Economics degree course really helps understand the global economic issues.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
The hours compared to other degrees, however, they were evidently essential to do well.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Lecturers and tutors are good, very helpful and are easily contactable by email. The university is well facilitated with a good library. Computer catalogue and friendly staff make it easy to find books. 24-hour internet access proved extremely useful with a really good number of printers. They have recently renewed all the library chairs so they are more modern and clean looking, however, seats can sometimes be limited when lots of people are doing group work.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Handouts at the beginning of the year name compulsory and relevant textbooks, outline module content and deadlines to enable students to plan their studies. Most of the time you attend lectures then go through corresponding seminar worksheets in seminars, generally as a group.

ERASMUS scheme, study abroad and work placements
Have you studied on an ERASMUS or study abroad programme? Where did you go and what experience have you gained from your placement?
Yes, I went to Euromed Management School in Marseille, France, for a four-week summer school programme. I was able to experience amazing French culture, the different learning environment, to create an international network and live a beautiful city! Nottingham Trent has a partnership with the University so tuition fees were paid for. The application process was pretty simple and the parts where you have to arrange your own flights and other excursions with new friends, was a real learning experience and an incredible joy. There wasn't a moment I wasn't doing anything too! The French Student team from Euromed were excellent in integrating all of us. I feel that I can speak for all 43 students who attended the programme from around the world - we had the best time of out lives there, so far! I enjoyed every moment of it and I would defnitely recommend these study programmes abroad to future students.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Nottingham Trent University offers sufficient and good facilities to enable students to excel in their studies of interest. The university also enables students to take a break from the work with the social life offered by the Student Union, the city and surrounding area. Although students sometimes do need to focus on what they came for amongst all the fun attractions of University life.

What is the academic life like at your university?
Enjoyable.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
I didn't know what to expect of Freshers week and it was great! They had a really fun fair with all the clubs and societies, local businesses as well as important information booths; plus loads of free giveaways everywhere! Club and bar promotions were everywhere and for Nottingham Trent Fresher students, there was priority entry to the Student Union nights all Freshers week.

Are there any other notes you would like to add about life in general at university or anything else which would be relevant to a prospective student?
Find the right balance between social and work and put your priorities first. Try not to procrastinate with deadlines as it might set you down. Work hard, play hard.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best: The Student Union and Bar. Worst: Not everyone was actually guaranteed student halls in first year. Although, I saved a lot of money going private.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
The University's 02 gym has various fitness classes and the gym is adequate for fitness. There are a number of sports clubs, such as badminton, football, tennis, rugby etc.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Great! There are all sorts of people in Nottingham Trent university from all around the world. They have all sorts of social activities, from sports to movie nights. The nightlife is undoubtedly fun! Themed nights, drinks promotions all the time. I suppose the drinking culture experienced by students depends on the crowd in which they immerse themselves. Many times I didn't have to drink to have fun!

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Nottingham, being a student city, is a lively city, especially at night. The city is known for its nightlife and yes, it is pretty good with many events and concerts. There is almost everything to do, bowling, ice skating, snooker and pool etc. In and around Nottingham are many places to visit for fun days out too, such as Go Ape. Nottingham is not as dangerous as made out to be; only locals tend to get into troubles.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in private student accommodation because student halls were full, which I came to find was much cheaper, much more spacious and nicer. However, halls offer students a real student experience and a brilliant social life; students are always guaranteed notification and participation in all university social events during Fresher's week. It depends what your priority is - saving money or having a great social life.
