The course in general
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Economics, Business Studies, English Language, Maths.
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
Wanted to go into something along the lines of business but I thought business was way too general so I decided to choose accounting and finance as it was more specific. I am not too good on numbers so I thought it would be something challenging as well as very rewarding as a career path in the future.
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
I was only in 3 days a week, whereas my other housemate who studied exactly the same subject was in everyday. Depends on your timetable, just know that the less days you're in for, the longer the hours, whereas the more days you're in for you're only in for 1-2 hours. Everyday was a mixture of a lecture and a seminar. Also I had 9am-10am starts which wasn't great especially after a night out and the latest lectures I had were til 7pm-8pm.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes, especially before lectures and seminars so you know what's going on.It is expected of you as it's all about independant learning. If you don't read up, you're the one who's going to be lost in the lecture or seminar which I experienced many times! I totally regretted not keeping up with the reading especially during the exam period.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
The way the lectures and seminars are very structured and the lecturers and seminar tutors being available when you need them
What do you like least about your degree programme?
Probably the unrelated modules that are compulsory.
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
I find the that there are a lack of IT facilities and the library can get rather crowded towards coursework deadlines and examination periods.
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
The lectures are pretty much all in powerpoint and lecture programmes are designed to help you follow through examples that they run through. Seminars also provide students with exercises to be completed during the seminar,to focus on the main points of the lectures and to allow further discussion of areas in which we may be unsure.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Good location, friendly students, great teaching, whatmore could you ask for?
What is the academic life like at your university?
Contrary to popular belief, student life isn't all about socialising. A significant time should involve independent studying helping to build the foundations for your 2nd year
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
I didn't get to experience Fresher's week as such but I know loads of events are held to help you settle in. Too much choice and not a long enough Fresher's week.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
I would consider the location of the university to be the best thing. It is situated in the centre of the city which is very convenient!
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
I wasn't involved in any particular sports or activities, so I cannot give my opinion on this area.I know sport plays a major part in life at Nottingham Trent University
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Very lively, lots of events happening every day of the week, with lots of alcohol involved as many drink promotions are on, cheap and cheerful!
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Nice and friendly.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
During my first year, I had to live in a student house as there was a lack of halls of residence. I would definitely suggest to live in halls of residence as that's definitely the way to experience the student life!
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
All halls of residence are self catered, so I think.....its definitely best to self cater as that's the whole part of university, being able to look after and take care of yourself
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £75pw self catered.
