The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
22
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I enjoyed Chemistry at A-level; it wasn't my best subject but I enjoyed it the most and the course sounded really interesting.
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Normally, there are lectures or tutorials for most of the day. 9 hours a week are spent in labs, usually spread out over two 3 hour sessions in 1 day and another 3 hour session in another day.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Not as much as some course's. Each week I probably do at most 4-5 hours of necessary extra work.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
It's challenging and I'm always learning something new about how the world around us works. My favourite part of the course is probably the practical lab sessions - they are very interesting.
What do you like least about your degree programme?
All the early starts.
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
I think they are probably some of the best in the country - I have no qualms with the teaching and the teaching facilities.
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
It is a tough course - it's hard, but its worth it and when u come out with a degree in Chemistry, employers will know you've worked hard, and are worth hiring. The teaching methods are mainly lectures and labs, which compliment each other brilliantly. There are also tutorials and workshops which are where you can get lots of help with any problems you're having with the work.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
A fantastic university in a fantastic city. It's a brilliant place to gain your degree and study and also a great place to have fun and make friends.
What is the academic life like at your university?
Very good, lots of facilities to help you with your studies and everyone is willing to help.
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Freshers' week was brilliant and we all made lots of friends and had loads of fun - it was much better than I expected.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
The University of Leeds is a brilliant uni; the city is fantastic and the student union is the best in the country. There's always something to do and plenty of societies to join and everyone is really friendly.
The worst thing I think is the accommodation which is quite expensive.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
I'm not a very sporty person but I did start paying ultimate Frisbee which is really fun. There are lots of facilities to use and they are very welcoming of new people.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
In my experience, most of my nights out have been alcohol orientated, but I know people who don't drink a lot and still have a fantastic time. In my opinion, the nightlife and social scene are brilliant - there is plenty to do and you're never stuck for options.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Leeds is one of my favourite cities. Its got the greatest student population (by percent) in the country, so its really tailored for students.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I did live in student accommodation. I would recommend it to all new students as its the easiest way to make friends and can be a real laugh.
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
I went self catered; you learn a bit more about living on your own and you can eat what you want, when you want.
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £96 per week which was one of the more expensive ones.
