The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
10 for Psychology

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Maths, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I liked the structure of it and the fact that I had a large choice of options if I didn't enjoy the course I'd originally chosen.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
I wish I'd known that I'd be taking three different courses. If I'd known more about the variety on offer I might have chosen differently depending on what would be of the greatest benefit to me when I graduated.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
You have an hour long lecture three days a week. You also have an hour tutorial every week and a two hour lab every three weeks. Because you do three courses in first year you have a similar set up for your other two courses.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Ideally about 2 hours reading for every lecture.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
I like that I don't just focus on Psychology. I enjoy looking at other things too.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
I don't like that, due to the fact I'm doing three courses, I often have three deadline dates very close to each other, for completely different things.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
I think the University has excellent academics and facilities. They are a lot better than at some of the universities my friends attend.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
The content of the course is mainly an introduction to Psychology this year. It is taught using a variety of methods, including tutorials, self taught labs, and lectures, as well as your own, individual research.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
My university is bursting with variety. There's no chance to get bored because just when you think you've seen it all something else pops up that you've never seen before. It's a great place to discover hidden talents and passions and one of the best things is how inclusive it is of everybody; no-one's unwelcome.

What is the academic life like at your university?
The academic life at my university is alright. There's not always enough pressure put on you to do as much work as you could be though, so a lot of students end up slacking.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
I really enjoyed Freshers' week. It wasn't how I'd expected it at all, but I would've preferred it if I'd been in a block with more people. I didn't know very many people, and it was difficult to get to know people nearby because they were always heading to separate things.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
I think the best thing about my university is that it's so close together. Everything's all in one place so it's easy to find. I think that because the university is so old a lot of the building are old too and need a lot of work doing to them in order to make them more modern.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
There's so many different things to try at my university. There's all the main sports but lots of things you wouldn't expect and the same goes for other activities. There's something for everyone.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
The social scene at my university's so wide. Though a lot of it is alcohol orientated there's always an option that isn't. There's loads of sports orientated things on and separate courses and faculties often have events on.

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
I love Glasgow. It's a great city and there's always something to do. I'm never bored and the people are so friendly.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in halls of residence for my first year and would strongly suggest anyone else to do the same thing. It's a great way to meet people and you really feel like you belong somewhere. Afterwards, though, I would definitely say to move out. Freshers are annoying when you're not one anymore.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
When I was in halls it was self catered. I think this is far better in your first year because it means you can have what you want when you want. It also means you're not wasting money when you miss something or when you feel like getting a takeaway.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £95 for non-catered Catered - £110
