The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
20

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Maths, Graphics and Physics.

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I believed the degree to be practical, and I wanted to get into the construction trade with the aim to have my own business in the future.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
I wish I'd known more about the actual content, and specifics to where it would take me.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Mainly lectures with the odd optional tutorial. We sometimes have lab sessions for soil science and more hands on modules to aid with coursework.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes, but not too much. A suitable amount is needed to gain a better, all round understanding of the topics.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
Flexibility, and the lecturers. The course is made interesting by the methods of teaching and the content. The feedback is also very good.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
Some of the modules may seem irrelevant at times, but all in all, not much to complain about.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Very high standard. Large campus based uni, with excellent sporting and educational facilities.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Large range of content, from maths to more practical topics such as geology etc. Teaching methods include field trips and classwork, or lectures.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
The university has a really friendly atmosphere and community feel. It has the top facilities in sport and the academic side is fantastic.

What is the academic life like at your university?
Very good. Good research facilities and a good standard of work expected.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
It was better than I expected. A fantastic union and events planned made it all I could have asked for.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
The best thing is it's campus based, so there is a good all round community feel. The facilities are second to none, and there is a good social and academic side to the university.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Sports are second to none. Everything you could wish for.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Not really alcohol oriented, as many sports players attend. The union is fantastic, like a club in itself!

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Loughborough is all in all, a small town really. However I feel safe there, and it has everything you could want with a huge Sainsbury's etc.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in halls and I would recommend halls. It's best as you meet the most people and can have a great social life there.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Catered, and I would suggest catered is best because the food recently has been fantastic!

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
£80 a year.
