3
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Computing
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I really enjoy Mathematics!
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
All lectures apart from three tutorials spaced throughout the week.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
There is as much work needed outside lectures as within.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
Pure subjects, especially analysis and computational.
What do you like least about your degree programme?
The applied maths, especially Mechanics
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Exemplary, no problems so far
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
The content in the first year is a good introduction to Mathematics at degree level and there is a jump from the first few weeks to hard work that can surprise some students and they should be ready to expect. Teaching methods are largely irrelevant as information and resources are given and then it is up to oneself to gain an understanding.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Apart from the union and the massive amount of very rah private school people, it's really great. If those two put you off, then possibly reconsider. Otherwise, it's fantastic.
What is the academic life like at your university?
Good, but not seen as "the be all and end all", unless exams are approaching
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Fresher's was great and well organised, however the expectation to carry it on for two weeks even though lectures started was a bit too much and cost too much and made some too tired for first lectures.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best thing is the city, worst thing is the union.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
All encompassing and broad range - everything is seemingly catered for.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Nightlife is excellent, and yes, it is fairly alcohol orientated.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Fantastic, so much going on.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
Halls, as you meet more people, although in successive years I think a house is better
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self-catered as it is more sociable
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £80 for catered
