The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
16

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Maths, Further Maths and Physics

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
It was my favourite subject in Secondary School plus I enjoy problem solving.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Day is mainly made up lectures and tutorials. In the first year, tutorials are compulsory and you must have at least 70% attendance.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Every week, problem sheets are assigned for each module so there are four per week and it is also advised to read through lecture notes.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
Having a wide range of modules to choose from such as Quantum Theory and Mathematical Finance.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
No performance checks throughout the year. It is all based on the end of year exams. Can become lazy during the year and then have to work extremely hard at the end of the year.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Very good facilities available where students can do their work such as the Compass and paws room. Libraries are near the campuses too.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Students have to mainly copy off the board and are expected to make additional notes on the side. Lectures last for about an hour. Different lecturers use different styles of teaching. Different teaching techniques that are used are Power Point slides, lecture notes, or just what the lecturer writes on the board.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
At Kings, there are a wide range of people so it is easy to make new friends. The campuses are located in or near central London and have very good academic facilities within them such as computer rooms and silent study areas. There is always someone to help you out no matter what your problem is and the reception staff are very friendly. When you go to the Strand campus, you can see all the famous people who have attended Kings and what they have managed to achieve after they left.

What is the academic life like at your university?
There are libraries on every campus and within them there are many computer facilities and silent study areas which makes studying a lot easier. During exam times, the libraries get full but during the year most people work at home or in the university campus.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
My Freshers Week was amazing. Got to go out to different events put on by the University and meet lots of new people.

Are there any other notes you would like to add about life in general at university or anything else which would be relevant to a prospective student?
Make the most out of it...especially first year!

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best thing is the location. Right in the heart of London so there is a lot to do. There are a lot of extra curricular activities available to students with a wide range of clubs and societies. The worst thing is probably the campuses being spread out. As each campus has different services, it takes long commuting to each one.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Wide range of activities that Kings offers as students can start their own clubs and societies.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
The university has two main Student Unions which are very busy. There are so many clubs in London that cater for different tastes so there is always something to do. It is very alcohol orientated and the nights can sometimes end up very messy....but fun!

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
There is so much to do at any time of the day but the only drawback is that London is very expensive.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in halls for first year and then moved to a private flat for second and third year. Halls are probably the best choice for first year as you get to meet new people and the scene is very social plus you are not confined to living with a small number of people. Then living in flats after is better so there is less distraction when it comes don to doing work.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
I lived in catered and even though it saved me from having to cook, the food was not very nice and we always ended up eating out which wasted more money. But since it was catered it gave everyone a chance to socialise.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
Catered en suite is roughly £175/week and self catered en suite is £130
