The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
15
Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Biology, Chemistry and another, possibly an essay based subject although Maths at AS is useful
Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
As I felt that being a doctor is the only thing I want to do in the future.
Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
Wednesday afternoon's are not free for sport (like other courses), the course structure is interesting but requires more self directed learning than anticipated.
Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Generally in first year there are 2 or 3 hours of lectures from 9, then self directed SSC, histology or pharmacology. There are 2 hour tutorials and 3 hour anatomy sessions once a week where the year is halved.
How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
All histology, pharmacology and extra anatomy is self directed. As well as this, it is necessary to do background preparation for all tutorials etc and SSC work is all self directed occupying a large percentage of afternoons.
The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
The ability to select SSCs, the sociology and psychology aspects as well as the staff being very willing to assist you with any problems and queries.
What do you like least about your degree programme?
Self directed histology and a lack of exam practise papers.
Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
The health sciences library is superb and all lecturers are willing to help although some are poor in giving lectures to the whole year.
Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
3 integrated core units per year, one per term and then an additional psychology module, taught on Wednesdays (including Wednesday afternoons), personal and professional development is on a Monday afternoon and is prioritised at Leeds.

Describing your university
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Fresher's week was amazing, the events provided by the union were cheesy and everything you wanted. The Fresher's ball is never that great and remember not to wear a beautiful dress whatever you do!
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Leeds as a city is incredibly student friendly and as for a worst thing...I can't think of one!
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Sport is at a high standard at Leeds. The swimming pool and new gym are near completion which is the only draw back to the on-campus facilities.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
There are a wide range of events at Leeds, but alcohol is prominent within sports teams etc. However, this is common in all universities from my experience and there is no pressure to drink. There are also many things to do for those who don't drink.
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Leeds as a city is amazing for university, it's friendly, cheap, easily accessible and generally awesome. Shopping is great for when your parents come to visit as well.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in halls, it made it very easy to make life long friends.
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
I chose catered for convenience and although the food wasn't great it did mean that budgeting was slightly easier and it was far more social.
