The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
30

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Maths.

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I am interested in chemistry and wanted a career with social contact. Therefore instead of just doing chemistry I thought pharmacy would be a good idea.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
That it would be so intense. I didnt realise you needed to know maths a lot, so I wish I had done as maths.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
I have a combinations of labs and lectures. Usually lectures until 12 then labs after lunch until 5.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
Yes, I do a lot of background reading, the library at Manchester is fantastic.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
I like the labs the best, they are very interesting and I love learning hands on.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
Probably the amount of hours I do compared to other courses

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
They are excellent

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Lectures cover bare basics but the foundations to do more work. Also tutorials for a chance to practice how to do things with a member of staff present.

ERASMUS scheme, study abroad and work placements
Have you been on a work placement/year in industry? How has it benefited your study and career prospects:
With my degree I have to do a year in placement to get my qualifications.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Manchester University has excellent libraries, facilities and is well situated. There is a free bus for students which transports from north and south campus which is very useful. There are lots of societies to join, so no student could ever get bored.

What is the academic life like at your university?
Very good!

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Better than expected. Went to a lot of student night clubs, however, not organised by uni! Fresher's fare at union however was good.

Are there any other notes you would like to add about life in general at university or anything else which would be relevant to a prospective student?
Location. Not too far from home; I pay so much in travelling home.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
It has a massive campus in the city which is good and easily acessible.Halls of residence were all good. Lots of students! The worst thing is the facilities provided by the union!

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
All excellent and some obscure ones too, eg: extreme frisbee.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
It is very good, lots of variety compared to other cities I have been to.

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Manchester is a brilliant city, something for all

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
First year I lived in halls, now in a student house! Halls was best, better located.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self catered,is more flexible in terms of student life.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £70 self catered.
