Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
It's pretty good, though I cannot really judge it properly as I have never been to any other universities.
What is the academic life like at your university?
Quite laid back.
Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Worse, everywhere was too busy and the amount of flyers confuse you as to what nights will be good and which will be boring.
What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Large student population with lots of facilities.
Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Alright though I know little about them.
The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
There are a number of bars around the campus and the Student Union has several inside it, so yes
What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Manchester is quite dirty but there is lots to do.
Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
I lived in halls for my first year. It is good if you want to meet people and I would reccomend it for the first year. I do, however, feel that living in a house is better as you are able to choose with whom you live; though you should only move into a house with people you already know.
If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self catered is far better, as otherwise you have set meal times and you have to pay extra money. Learning to cook is part of university and when you live in a house you won't get all your meals cooked for you
Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £90pw self-catered with an en-suite. It was the most expensive self catered halls so don't worry if that seems a lot. Cost of catered unknown.
