The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
20

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Maths, Further Maths, Physics.

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
I have always been good at maths and enjoy studying the subject.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
A list of things that are taught in further maths A-level that are helpful to have studied before taking the course.

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
On average 4 hours of lectures a day and one tutorial, each lasting 50 minutes.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
not excessive amounts, however to excel a lot of extra work is required especially if you have not studied further maths at A-level. It is advised to do one exercise sheet per week for each module, totalling 5 per week.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
There is very little mandatory coursework and almost all of the grading is exam based, meaning that during term time out of exam period it is easier to socialise.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
The computing modules are very outdated and tedious.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
The sport facilities are great, however the library is small.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
A lot of the content is recapping A-level material and then going further in depth. The lectures are not interactive and the core module lectures have in excess of 300 people attending. The exercise sheets and tutorials provide the main backbone of helping you understand the content covered in lectures.

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
The university itself is a great place to learn and socialise, providing excellent sporting facilities and a great place to relax in the summer months by the lake. The only downside is the fact that the university campus is quite far out of the town centre and a bus ride is almost a necessity on most occasions to get into town and back.

What is the academic life like at your university?
It is a very easy place to study when you want to, very little noise around the campus during the day.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
The official Freshers week of 2008/09 was, I felt, poorly organised and the £40 wristband was a waste, however that did not stop the week being a success.

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
The best thing is the sports facilities. The worst thing is the expensive price of living in Bath city.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Excellent, there are a multitude of sports clubs and teams on offer and also many social groups for departments.

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Very good, however heavily alcohol orientated.

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
It is a beautiful place to live, however quite pricey even as a student.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
Halls of residence is the best for the first year in my opinion since you are in close vicinity to other people in your year making it very easy to socialise.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self catered is far better, since it helps prepare you for life during your second year.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
£80 to 130pw.
