The course in general
How many contact hours do you have in the average week?
15

Ideally, what 3/4 subjects would you recommend doing in order to be in the best position for your course?
Economics, Maths, Politics, History

Why did you decide to study your degree programme?
Liked both Economics and Politics at A-Level so wanted to do a course that covered similar ground.

Explain the things you wish you'd known about your degree before you applied:
More about structure of course

Describing your average day
Explain how your day is made up. For example, do you have labs/seminars/tutorials/lectures?
Course is primarily taught through lectures, of which there are several per day operating on a weekly schedule. Most of my lectures were in the morning although this will vary from year to year.

How much extra work/reading are you required to do out of lectures?
A lot of the reading is recommended in order to fill in gaps left by the lecturers, however I guess it is largely upto the individual student whether to do the reading or not.

The best and worst parts of the course
What do you like best about your degree programme?
You learn to be thorough with analysis, and these analytical skills are particularly useful in many aspects of life.

What do you like least about your degree programme?
The sometimes tedious nature of the course.

Academics and course content
What do you think of your university's academics and facilities?
Pretty good from what I have gathered. There is usually a support system available if one needs help with academic work.

Explain how you expected your course to be and how it compares to how it actually is. Give an outline of the content of the course.
Depends on the units you take... Economics can be combined with several other disciplines... E.g. Maths. Teaching is primarily done through lectures however There are also some labs/seminars. Expect a reasonable amount of freedom in terms of the quantity of work you do...

Describing your university
Sum up your university in one paragraph:
Great place to be, lots of fun, lively people and an interesting mix of people from different backgrounds.

What is the academic life like at your university?
Varies massively depending on the course and the people on it... Some have a very strict work ethic, others don't.

Describe your Freshers' Week - was it as you expected, better or worse? Why?
Definitely a good laugh... Lots going on, but understandably very tiring!

Are there any other notes you would like to add about life in general at university or anything else which would be relevant to a prospective student?
Choose your course carefully!

What is the best and worst thing about your university?
Best: Good social scene. Worst: Exeter has a reputation for being overly public-school dominated.

Sport and extra curricular
What are the sport and other activities on offer like at your university?
Lots from which to choose, all of which is explained during Freshers!

The social scene
What is the social scene (and/or nightlife) like at your university? Is it particularly alcohol orientated?
Lots going on, several clubs with a reasonable amount of variation. Several university targeted nights. Inherently there is alot of alcohol consumption but it's not a necessity, to have a good night.

What do you think of the city your university is based in or near (as a city)?
Very nce city. Right balance between tranquility and entertainment.

Accommodation
Do you live in a halls of residence or a student house (or college)? What would you suggest is best in your opinion?
Halls in first year, private accom thereafter. Halls are a good bet.

If you are in a hall or college, is it catered or self catered? Which is better for the first year in your opinion and why?
Self catered. Good because it's cheaper and you have more freedom with regards to what you eat.

Approximately, what is the average cost of accommodation per week in your first year for catered and non-catered halls/colleges?
About £90-100pw approx.
